A good read but not a great read. I was expecting more from this series and now that I have finished it I am not sure why. It is a good to see the famous Robin Hood turned into a more realistic rendition of a possible past and I always love a good historical fiction as it is. The story has been so well covered by hollywood ever 10 years though that the story line is tediously boring and predictable. Lawhead is one of the very best writers out there. I can't take that away from him. His Byzantium novel was the first book that I ever read in which I could "smell" and "feel" the words on paper. There is some of that here but this series is not even 1/10 of that book. I am left feeling as if one of my paper heroes masks have fallen from their face but I still appreciate the skill and wisdom contained but I doubt now that I could ever read another of his works with such anticipation again.
